Healing
The process of restoring health or becoming whole again, both physically and emotionally.
Rehabilitation
The process of returning to a healthy or positive way of life, or helping someone achieve this after experiencing imprisonment, serious illness or other significant challenges.
Empowerment
The process of becoming stronger and more confident, particularly in taking control of one’s life and asserting one’s rights. It also involves granting authority or power to someone to enable them to take action or make decisions.
Accountability
Accountability is important for the first three pillars to happen. It is the obligation to explain, justify and take responsibility for one’s actions. It involves answering to someone with greater authority or oversight.

A Legacy of Care
Parents United was founded in 1994 by Dr. Debra Johnson, who was widely respected throughout the community for her work with sexual abuse survivors and sexual offenders. After Dr. Johnson’s death in December 2022, Dr. Liseth Sales took over Parents United in January 2023.
With an extensive academic background that includes a bachelor’s in Psychology, master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology and Applied Psychology, and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Liseth has dedicated her career to advancing mental health care across a range of settings. She has provided compassionate and evidence-based therapy to children and families through Sierra Vista Child and Family Services and the Center for Human Services. Her work with Stanislaus County’s Community Emergency Response Team involved conducting 5150 psychiatric evaluations and ensuring patients were connected to appropriate community resources. At Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, Liseth brought clinical expertise to Urgent Services, the Intensive Outpatient Services Program (IOP), and Addiction Medicine, while also conducting psychological testing including ADHD testing. In addition to clinical roles, she served in leadership, overseeing psychologists and managing the Central Valley’s Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program, demonstrating a strong commitment to both patient care and professional development in the mental health field.
